The professional hunter sees to it that his client does not hunt contrary to the provisions of the law

Your stay in South Africa

With your comfort in mind, we will meet you at Johannesburg International, Bloemfontein or Kimberley Airport from whence we will travel to the destination of your choice. The ideal time to plan your trip is between March and October. During this period temperatures are milder and the days in most parts of the country abundantly sunny and brisk

 Accommodation

A broad range of accommodation is available. You may like "roughing" it by camping out in the wild under the African sky, or may wish to settle for something more comfortable like the fully equipped camps on our game farms. If you are a "comfort-connoisseur", our list of fully outfitted guesthouses specializing in traditional South African culinary delights including venison dishes, complemented by the finest South African table wines

 Duration

Hunts of a minimum of five to ten days are recommended depending on the number and species to be hunted. One trophy per day is a useful guideline

 Climate

South Africa has a wide range of climate zones. Depending on location, temperatures may range from several degrees (Centigrade) below freezing (below 32 degrees Fahrenheit) in winter to the high 30’s or low 40’s in summer (86 - 104 Fahrenheit). Early mornings and late afternoons can be quite chilly and cool

 People and Languages

South Africa has an estimated population of 45 million people of various ethnic groups and cultures. There are no fewer than eleven official languages in South Africa, although the visitor is not expected to understand all of them! English is widely understood and used

Electricity and telephones

The South African current is 240 Volt, 50 Hz and South Africa is linked to most countries around the world via a direct dialing telephone network. Your professional hunter will always be in possession of a mobile (cell) phone

Currency and methods of payment

The South African currency is the Rand. It is advisable as anywhere else in the world to rather use traveler’s cheque or credit cards rather than large amounts of cash. Remember that the Rand is a volatile currency and exchange rates could change on a daily basis. Please consult your professional hunter as to the preferred method of payment for your safari

Value Added Tax (VAT)

VAT is included in the daily rates of the hunting safari and is not refundable. There is no VAT charged on the trophy fees if the trophy is exported from South Africa. VAT is currently charged at 14%. Please note that while the trophy fees are not subject to VAT, VAT is levied on the dipping and shipping or tanning of skins or taxidermy work

 Insurance

Travel insurance is always a good idea for you and your possessions as well as for delays and cancellations and other unexpected situations.

It is also recommended to take out medical insurance especially if you plan to visit remote areas

 Health Hints

Generally speaking, no special vaccinations or inoculations are required coming into South Africa but check before leaving home in case you are coming from a high risk area. Malaria is prevalent in some parts of the country particularly where hunters are likely to go. Your professional hunter will advise you when to take prophylactics. Tap water is safe throughout the country but some visitors prefer to drink bottled mineral water. The South African sun can be vicious and it is advised to wear a hat and sun block at all times

 Tipping

Tipping is entirely the client’s prerogative and tipping of camp staff, skinners and trackers can be finalized with the outfitter. Professional hunters are usually tipped 10% of the trophy fees
